Use of a stun gun leads to felony charges in Izard county

The use of a stun gun during a domestic violence situation on Sept. 26 led to felony charges being filed against a Melbourne man.

The Izard County Sheriff’s Department said the domestic situation was between a man and a woman.

The female victim was assaulted inside an apartment on Main Street in Melbourne, and then again outside of the apartment.

The suspect, Blandon Elkins, 44, was assaulting the woman with a stun gun when two witnesses saw what was happening attempted to assist the victim. Elkins allegedly turned the stun gun toward them before he went back into the apartment.

Authorities have charged Elkins with three counts of aggravated assault and third-degree domestic battery.

Elkins bond was set as a $10,000 professional bond with an Izard County Circuit Court date of Oct. 28, 2020.
