A Southside woman has been charged with possession of a controlled substance in Independence County Circuit Court.
The affidavit of probable cause for arrest said on Sept. 30, 2020, a postal inspector alerted Independence County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Moody about a tip regarding a “suspicious” package scheduled to arrive at the Batesville branch of the United States Postal Service at 10 a.m. that morning. The package was addressed to a woman, identified as Tammie Renee Bolin, 59, the affidavit said.
Moody and the inspector agreed to meet and make a controlled pick-up of the package, according to the affidavit. After Bolin was advised the package had arrived at the post office, the court record said Bolin came to the USPS location at 3 p.m. to take possession of it.
When the inspector encountered Bolin picking up the package, she agreed to speak to law enforcement. According to the inspector, she also signed a pre-printed “consent to search” form. The package was opened, and inside were 179 white round pills. The postal inspector identified the pills as Tramadol. According to the court record, Bolin admitted to having an “issue.”
Tramadol is a synthetic opioid analgesic medication used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain in adults and adolescents 12 and older. It works in the brain to change how the body feels and responds to pain.
The pills were seized and sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis. It was approximately six months before the analysis came back with confirmation that the 179 pills were Tramadol.
Bolin has now been charged with possession of a controlled substance. The charge is a Class D felony. Her bond was set at $25,000.
