The Old Independence Regional Museum is planning for its 2021 Day Camp which, this year, will invite campers to celebrate Batesville’s bicentennial birthday.
“Day campers will learn what it was like in the early days of the town’s founding,” said Terri Crawford, the museum’s humanities educator. “They will have an opportunity to learn about notable people and structures in the settlement along Poke Bayou and the White River.”
To explore life in Batesville 200 years ago, campers will participate in a variety of crafts and hands-on activities. Storytelling, demonstrations, and snacks will add to the historical experience.
This camp, designed for elementary-age students, will be Tuesday, June 22, through Friday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The total cost is $60 per camper and pre-registration is required. The museum requires a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 registrants.

Old Independence serves a 12-county area: Baxter, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Poinsett, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff. Parts of these present-day counties comprised the original Independence County in 1820s Arkansas territory.
The museum is located at 380 South 9th St., between Boswell and Vine Streets in Batesville.
