The Stone County Sheriff’s Department is informing residents to be on the watch for scams, thefts, and the speed limit.
Sheriff Lance Bonds said his office has been receiving numerous complaints regarding a phone scam asking citizens to mail money to certain locations because they had won a prize. This is a scam, and residents are urged to contact his office if they receive such a call. Most of these scams are untraceable, the sheriff said, but will be recorded on a report.
Speeding has also been an issue, according to Bonds. He said his deputies will be enforcing the “Click It or Ticket” and distractive driving programs to ensure safety upon the highways and roads of the county.
Sheriff Bonds also said his office has received numerous complaints of speeding and careless driving in the Luber and Misenheimer area, as well as the Timbo area. Deputies and even some investigators have been dispatched to work those regions of the county, Bonds said.
And the department is investigating numerous thefts throughout the county. Bonds said if you see someone or a vehicle in your neighborhood that seems suspicious, to contact his office so that his officers can investigate.
The contact number to the sheriff’s department is (870) 269-3825.
