Arkansas Business looks at most profitable nursing homes in area

White River Now’s Gary Bridgman takes a look at a recent list from the Little Rock business journal, Arkansas Business, concerning the most profitable nursing facilities in the state.


 

Just under 20 percent of Arkansas’s most profitable nursing homes are located in the north central region of the state. Two of the top five most profitable are located in this area: one in Batesville and the other in Mountain View.

That report was in the Aug. 2 issue of Arkansas Business, which listed the 70 most profitable nursing homes in the state ranked by net income for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2020.

According to the list, Ozark Health Nursing Center at Clinton in Van Buren County was the number one most profitable with a net income of $4.24 million on a gross income of $10.56 million.

Ozark Health operates with 118 beds, and during the reporting period, had an occupancy rate of 65.1 percent. The report also showed the nursing home made a $35,936 profit per bed in the 12-month period.

The Arkansas Business article also noted Wood-Lawn Heights Nursing Home in Batesville was the fourth most profitable nursing home in the state with a net profit of $1.66 million.

Wood-Lawn had a gross income of $14.28 million, which was by far the most income of any nursing home in the state. Wood-Lawn operates with 140 beds, and during the reporting period, had an occupancy rate of 94.9 percent. The report also showed the nursing home made $11,823 profit per bed in the 12-month period.

The Waters of Mountain View, LLC was the fifth most profitable nursing home in the state, according to the survey. During the fiscal year, the facility made a $1.65 million profit on gross income of $8.27 million.

Arkansas Business said The Waters of Mountain View had a net income per bed of $17,009. The facility operates with 97 beds and had an occupancy rate of 80.2 percent during the period.

Other nursing homes in north central Arkansas listed in the state’s 70 most profitable facilities include:

  • The Waters of Newport, LLC with a net income of $1.38 million / $11,523 net income per bed
  • The Springs of Searcy with a net income of $1.23 million / $5,034 net income per bed
  • The Springs of Batesville with a net income of $953,883 / $6,359 net income per bed
  • Cave City Nursing Home with a net income of $791,119 / $8,790 net income per bed

 

Arkansas Business said the source of the story’s information stemmed from the Facility Cost reports as processed by the Arkansas Department of Human Services. The research for the story was done by Gwen Moritz.
