The Independence County Quorum Court met in regular session Monday night.

Among regular items on the agenda, the court approved the sale of the Juvenile Detention Center to the Arkansas Dept. of Corrections for $1.795 million.

The facility will undergo some construction and then be used as a drug and alcohol treatment facility to help prevent those on probation or parole from re-offending.

A representative from the Arkansas Department of Corrections spoke before the court and shared future plans for the center.

The center will employ 47 and will have 150 beds. The positions at the new facility will most likely be filled by individuals that reside locally.

The court also discussed working toward a goal to provide a 7 percent pay raise to all county employees in 2022.

The Independence County Quorum Court meets the second Monday of each month at the Jess B. Carpenter Building in Downtown Batesville.
