A 37-year-old man went to jail Aug. 17 after authorities allege he hit an older victim with a set of bolt cutters.

Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies were called on a report of an assault at a Southside residence. Upon arrival, the arrest affidavit said deputies discovered the victim had blood running down their arm. The victim told the deputies Anthony George Harwood had spent the night at the residence and said the next morning they asked Harwood to “quiet down” when the suspect became loud.

The affidavit said Harwood then became angry and started throwing things, such as a plate, at the victim. The victim then told the deputies Harwood went outside the residence and returned with a set of bolt cutters. At that point, the court information said Harwood began striking the victim with the cutters before the set was taken away by another person at the residence.

Harwood then left the residence and was located walking nearby by one of the deputies responding to the initial call.

Harwood was arrested and taken into custody.

Anthony George Harwood (pictured below from his Independence County Detention Center booking image) faces one felony count of second-degree battery and is being charged as a habitual offender, having been previously been convicted of one but fewer than four felonies.

Harwood’s bond was set at $25,000.
