Jimmy Dale Gibbs of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at the age of 67.
He was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Newport, the son of Henry Leon and Ivone (Odom) Gibbs.
Gibbs was in career military, serving in the United States Marine Corp. He was a helicopter crew chief. Gibbs loved his country and was a Marine through and through. He was a member of Collier-Massey VFW Post 4683 and the American Legion.
He spent his later years working at Delta Trailer in Newport.
Gibbs enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising chickens, and spoiling his grandchildren. He especially loved his family, which was evidenced by the countless weekends he spent shopping with his girls.
Gibbs was a member of Remmel Church, where he cooked for get-togethers, build sets for VBS, and participated in the Outreach Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Tommy Gene Gibbs.
Gibbs is survived by his wife, Jean (Shaver) Gibbs of the home; two sons, Jimmy Gibbs and wife Angela, and John Gibbs and wife Christa, all of Newport; three daughters, Barbara
Gibbs, Carla Gibbs, and Linda Gibbs, all of Newport; three brothers, Henry Gibbs, and wife, Barbara, of Newport, Rickey Gibbs and wife, Donna of Cash, and Harold Gibbs and wife, Madeline of Shoffner; two sisters, Stella Lancaster of Jonesboro, and Patricia Deville and husband, Charles of Auvergne; three grandchildren, Ashton, Leon, and Rose Gibbs; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Lou Butterfield officiating. Interment will follow in Coffeyville Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Henry Gibbs, Rickey Gibbs, Harold Gibbs, Grady Henson, Jeff Phillips, and Dennis Hollenback. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Gibbs, John Gibbs, and Joe McGinnis.
