Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens has announced his plan to run for re-election in 2022.

Stephens told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman on Tuesday that since taking office in 2017, his department has overcome various challenges that law enforcement, in general, has faced across the country over the past few years. His office, he said, has also accomplished several goals.

“We’ve got a good leadership team, and we’ve got good people in place to help carry out the mission of the sheriff’s office,” said Stephens.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Independence County for the last four years and about nine months or so. And I look forward to continuing to serve and would appreciate the support and vote.”

“It has been a privilege and I’m blessed to have served as your Sheriff for the last four years and nine months. I am officially announcing that I will be seeking re-election for Independence County Sheriff in the upcoming 2022 election. Since taking office in 2017, I have been able to accomplish several goals within the Independence County Sheriff’s Office. Over the years, we have faced a tremendous amount of obstacles thrown at us and law enforcement. With dedicated leadership in place, we have always overcome these obstacles. We have faced hardships, we have accomplished many goals, we have sacrificed, and we have always overcome every obstacle thrown at us as a team. We will continue to strive every day to be better than we were yesterday, and I would be honored to continue serving as your Sheriff as we go into the next term.

As I stated in previous elections, I will continue to be a True Working Sheriff for Independence County.

Thank you for your continued support. I hope to retain your vote in the upcoming election next May.”
