The Batesville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, tackling a lengthy agenda.
The meeting opened with a presentation to the city of an “Our Beloved Community Partner Award” to the city from Executive Director DuShun L. Scarbrough of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission.
Scarbrough also recognized Batesville Police Chief Alan Cockrill and members of the Batesville Police Department for their work in helping a peaceful Black Lives Matter rally occur in Riverside Park last year.
Scarbrough announced that the City of Batesville, with collaboration with Batesville Schools, will be the host of 2022 King Week, commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The events are planned for Jan. 10 through Jan. 13.
Main Street Batesville’s Mandi Curtwright and Bob Carius provided an update on the organization’s activities and performance thus far in 2021 with the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council also approved two ordinances and a resolution. One ordinance involved raising competitive bidding requirements while the other ordinance concerned an amendment to the Batesville Zoning District map. The latter ordinance rezoned properties currently zoned Historic Residential (HR-1) to Single Family Residential (R-1) or Medium Density Residential (R-2).

The resolution concerned a revision to the Batesville Comprehensive Plan to include the incorporation of a new Master Street Plan and Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.
The Batesville City Council will meet again on Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Batesville Municipal Building.
