A 911 call regarding a possible intruder and injury at a Sherrill Drive residence prompted Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies to the scene on New Year’s Day.
According to the incident report, when deputies arrived, there were two subjects in the living room — one being Ricoa D. Moorehead, 34. Moorehead allegedly made the 911 call and told officers someone had threatened to “beat him up,” the report said.
After interviewing the subject in the living room with Moorehead as well as a couple in a back bedroom, the deputies left — not finding any evidence that called for law enforcement.
A few minutes later, Moorehead called 911 again and officers responded, finding Moorehead not making sense with his conversation and reporting an emergency that did not exist, the report said. Moorehead was then taken into custody for communicating a false alarm.
As he was being arrested, the report said Moorehead informed officers he had a gun on him. Officers then noted confiscating a semi-automatic .380 pistol from Moorehead’s pocket that contained two cartridges, one of those in the chamber.
During the process of being incarcerated at the Independence County Jail, jailers also found a “white powder” inside one of Moorehead’s folded one-dollar bills that tested positive as meth, according to the report.
Moorehead is now charged with communicating a false alarm, possession of meth, and furnishing prohibited articles into a detention center. The last two charges are felonies.
The report also said Moorehead has a driver’s license out of Mississippi, and felony charges from that state as well.
