Yellowjackets score victories over Clinton

Mountain View picked up a pair of conference victories over Clinton Friday night at Mountain View High School. 

In the opener the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets outscored the Clinton Lady Yellowjackets 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 34-27 lead to the fourth quarter. Clinton would get no closer than six the rest of the way, as Mountain View stayed unbeaten in conference play with the 53-42 victory over the Clinton Lady Yellowjackets.  

Josie Storey led Mountain View with 22 points, Kennedy Holland added 13 points, Rylee Shipman 8 points, Emry Johnson 4 points and 10 rebounds, and Harley Avey 4 points. Clinton was led by Kylie Lasater with 13 points, Kinley Keith 10 points, Reese McDonald 9 points and Sydney Standridge 7 points. Mountain View improved to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while Clinton dropped to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Mountain View senior boys won their fourth straight game with a 49-37 victory over the Clinton Yellowjackets. Mountain View jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before building a 21-7 lead with 6:34 to go in the second quarter. Clinton would go on a 16-3 run to end the first half to cut Mountain View’s lead to 24-23 at the end of the first half. At the start of the third quarter, Beck Morrow hit one of his four 3-pointers, to start a second half where Mountain View outscored Clinton 25-14 and picked up the victory.  

Morrow led the Mountain View offense with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, Jayden Scroggins 9 points, and Elijah Carlton 6 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 block shots. Zane Widener scored 21 points for Clinton. Mountain View improved to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Clinton dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
