
Here’s a recap of recent Mountain View Yellowjackets basketball action.
Mountain View wrapped up their conference season with games on Friday and Saturday with mixed results.
On Friday night, the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets secured the number one seed in the 3A-2 District Tournament next week with a 54-38 victory over the Cave City Cavewomen.
Leading 34-27 going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Yellowjackets outscored Cave City 20-11 in the final frame to secure the victory. Josie Storey led the way with 30 points, Emry Johnson added 10 points, Kennedy Holland six points and 10 rebounds, and Harley Avey six points.
Cave City was led by Jessie Stauffer with 12 points, Dream Morrow added 11 points and Kade Milligan six points as Cave City ended their conference play with a 5-11 conference record and 8-14 overall.
In the senior boys game, Cave City’s Maddox Moreland hit a jumper with :02 left on the clock in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 41 and send it to overtime. Cave City took their first lead of the game and outscored Mountain View 10-5 in overtime to earn a 51-46 victory.
Elijah Carlton led the Yellowjacket offense with 12 points, Beck Morrow added 11 points, Collin Johnson seven points, Camyn Vickers seven points and Sam Fletcher six points.
Cave City was led by Moreland with 15 points, Britton Smith 14 points, Jacob Moore 12 points, and Ethan Ball eight points as the Cavemen finished the conference season with a 12-4 conference record and 19-6 overall.
On Saturday afternoon, the Mountain View Yellowjackets secured the number four seed in the 3A-2 District Tournament next week with a 55-41 home victory over the Harding Academy Wildcats.
The Yellowjackets outscored the Wildcats 24-16 in the second quarter to take a 12-point halftime lead.
Harding Academy would try to rally in the second half but Mountain View would hold off the Wildcats for the victory. Sam Fletcher led the Yellowjackets with 14 points, Beck Morrow added 13 points, Collin Johnson 10 points, Elijah Carlton eight points, and Jayden Scroggins six points as Mountain View ended their conference season with a 8-8 conference record and 14-10 overall.
Harding Academy was led by Kyle Ferrie with 16 points while Kayden Swindle added five points.
The Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets finished their conference season with a 49-43 loss to the Lady Wildcats. Josie Storey led the way for Mountain View with 17 points, Kennedy Holland 12 points and 11 rebounds, Ellie Akins added six points, Harley Avey five points and Emry Johnson nine rebounds as the Lady Yellowjackets finished the conference season with a 14-2 conference record and 17-6 overall.
The Lady Wildcats were led by McKenney Sheffield with 16 points, Callie Citty 10 points, Kloey Fullerton added seven points, Raquel Webb six points, and Addie Neal six points.

On Tuesday night, Feb. 8, at Bald Knob High School, the Mountain View Yellowjackets split with the Bald Knob Bulldogs in conference action.
In the opener the Bald Knob Lady Bulldogs ended the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets undefeated mark in conference play with a 56-54 victory over the Lady Yellowjackets. After trailing by five at the end of the third quarter, Mountain View rallied back to take a brief two point lead with 3:33 to play, but the Lady Bulldogs would retake the lead, and hit crucial free throws at the end to claim victory.
Mountain View was led by Josie Storey with 28 points, Kennedy Holland added 14 points, Emry Johnson seven points, and Harley Avey five points as the Lady Yellowjackets still hold on to first place in the conference standings with a 13-1 conference record and 16-5 overall.
Bald Knob was led by Molli Pierce with 22 points, Reigiana Ward added 13 points, Kristina Lyons nine points, and Gabie Roberts eight points as the Lady Bulldogs improve to 6-9 in conference play and 13-13 overall.
In the senior boys game Mountain View jumped out to a 10-point halftime lead and increased that lead to 12 points headed to the fourth quarter. Bald Knob would rally in the fourth quarter to close the gap, but the Yellowjackets would get crucial free throws from Sam Fletcher and Collin Johnson and a late layup by Jayden Scroggins to secure a 42-38 victory to split the season series.
Mountain View was led by Fletcher with 11 points, Elijah Carlton added 10 points, and 10 rebounds, Scroggins added eight points and Johnson six points as Mountain View remains in possession of fourth place in the conference standings with a 7-7 conference record and 13-9 overall record.
Bald Knob was led by Braden Davis with 19 points, Micah Storey added 14 points as Bald Knob dropped to 5-10 in conference and 13-12 overall.
Both Mountain View teams will play in the 3A-2 District Tournament this week at Riverview High School. The Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets will be the number one seed and play on Friday night at 4 p.m. in the semifinal round, while the Mountain View Yellowjackets will be the number four seed and will play in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday night at 8:30.
