Obituary: Theopolis Barnes

Theopolis Barnes, 81, of Newport passed from this life on Friday, February 11, 2022.  He was born June 30, 1940, to Oscar Barnes and Perdella Johnson.

He was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church. He was a 1960 graduate of Eastside High School in Tuckerman where he played basketball.  He was employed by Harris Fish Farm for years before his health began to fail.  He enjoyed fishing and was often found hanging out at Ridley’s Fish house with his crew, known as Fox and Friends. He was often referred to as Crow-Bar or Tow-Boy by those who knew him best.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sons, Lonnie Williams of Newport, Freddie Williams of Peoria, Illinois, and Terry Williams of Peoria, Illinois; his brothers, John Barnes Sr. (Judith), Cleo Threatt (Bridgett); his sisters, Frankie Threatt (Ira), Paulette Threatt Williams; two grandchildren and a host of special cousins and friends.

Service will be at 11:00 Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at New Hope Cemetery in Tuckerman.

Acknowledgment: The family of Theopolis Barnes would like to extend our appreciation to all who have been there from the rising of the sun until the going down of the same for our beloved Theo. Your random acts of love and kindness are forever etched in our hearts and memories.  From the playground of East Side High School in Tuckerman to a home at Saint Michael’s in Newport.   We would like to give special recognition to all of his caregivers.
