Authorities recently targeted what is described as a “large bootlegging operation” in the southern part of Independence County.

According to a release from Sheriff Shawn Stephens, his office, along with agents from the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force and Arkansas Beverage Control, executed a search warrant on a location in the county where a large amount of alcohol was found — including beer, wine, and whiskey. The discovery came after an investigation on a report of underage individuals being able to purchase alcoholic beverages.

The evidence was collected and warrants are being typed on the individuals involved in this illegal operation, Sheriff Stephens said.
