Obituary: Agnes Marie Beckum

Agnes Marie Beckum, 78, of Smithville, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on Friday, March 11, 2022. 

She was born on August 3, 1943, in Grange, Arkansas, to Roy Girtman and Missie Johnson Girtman. She was united in marriage to Danny Beckum on December 12, 1992  and together they celebrated over twenty-nine years of marriage.

Agnes worked in various factories throughout her lifetime which included Miss Allison’s Cookies, Nu-Way Cleaners, and General Tire.  

She loved flowers and gardening.  She will be remembered for her famous “beans, purple hull peas, and fried okra” which many hunters enjoyed.  Many enjoyed coming to Grannie Agnes home to eat her wonderful food. 

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Danny, of the home;  son, William Clayton Smith, Jr. of Cave City;  daughter, Sophia (Steve) Liles, of Lynn; sisters, Peggy (Johnny) Sandy, of Lynn, Elizabeth Deaton, of Batesville; five grandchildren, Rose Geoffrion, Sarah Smith, Matt Brown, Cassandra Geoffrion, and Jennifer (Jay) Wooley; eight great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; her nieces, nephews, and friends who have a special place in her heart. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, R. B., Ray, and Coy Lee Girtman, sisters, Sybil Perkey, and Mary Jane Brightwell.

A funeral service will be Monday, March 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service, 2180 Batesville Blvd, Southside with Bro. Byron Griffey officiating.  

Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until service time. 

Burial will follow the service in the Maple Springs Cemetery in Rosie. 

Pallbearers will be Randy Smith, Johnny Brightwell, Bobby Burrow, Hunter Burrow, Jackie Beckum, and Kevin Walls.

Honorary Pallbearer is Gene Waugh.

A very special thank you to Caring Hands Hospice, Matt and Renee, who went above and beyond to provide the best care she could have had.
