Scots track and field competes at Hendrix Invitational

CONWAY, Ark. – Lyon College Scots Track and Field’s Jackson Beck won the Long Jump event with 5.98 meters, .06 meters ahead of second-place Micah Dolloff of John Brown at the 2022 Hendrix College Invitational on Saturday.

Scot Weston Klein won the Javelin throw with a 48.36-meter toss

In men’s action, Payne Moser was second overall in the pole vault, clearing 3.81 meters. Beck was fifth clearing 2.91 meters.

Patrick Mitchell was third in the shot put event with 9.65 meters. Case Duren was fourth with an 8.14-meter toss and Jace Cameron was fifth with a 6.79-meter throw.

Duren was fourth overall in the discus with a 27.18-meter throw. Mitchell was seventh overall with 22.58 and Cameron was eighth with 21.58.

Duren was fourth in the javelin throw with a 35.93-meters. Mark Brill was sixth with a throw of 30.10 meters and Cameron was ninth with a throw of 20.74.

Quentin Cotton finished eighth in the 100 meters in a time of 12.07. He was fourth overall in the long jump event with a 5.60-meters jump.

Marlon Durand was fourth in the 200- meter run in a time of 24.12.

Durand was fifth in the 400-meter run with a time of 54.79. Zachary Smith of Lyon College ran 1​1th place in a time of 58.98.

Smith was 1​0th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:07.89. Michael Starks ran 2​0th in a time of 2:25.93 and Zachary Nohr ran 2​6th in a time of 2:51.10.

Avery Aquino finished 2​1st in the 1,500- meter run in a time of 4:37.46. Starks ran 2​8th in a time of 4:52.73.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Mark Brill was​ eighth in a time of 12:01.14.

WOMEN

Chloe DeSouza was seventh and Raven Wright was ninth in the Women’s 100-meter race with a 15.11 and a 15.84, respectively.

Wright finished ninth in the 200-meters run in a time of 34.83.

Haeley Pines ran 1​5th​ in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:10.83. Chloe Sharp was 18th with a time of 1:22.78.

Pines was 1​9th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:52.29.

Alexis Herman ran ​18th​ ​​in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:47.58.

Clare Wilber was ​eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13.42.95.

Scots hit the links in Big Creek Showdown

MOUNTAIN HOME – The Lyon College Men’s and Women’s golf teams competed in the Big Creek Showdown at the Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home on Thursday against William Woods and Williams Baptist.

The Lyon College men split into two squads and Nick Beausoleil shot a one-over 73 to lead Team A. Scott Schmidt shot a 76, while Cameron Curtis and Brody Jeanes both shot 79s for the Scots and Will Boles came in with an 83.

The Lyon College Men’s Team B was led by Luke Jackson, who also shot a one-over 73. Gaven Peterie shot a 78, while Tyler Doucet shot an 84, Blake Carr came in with an 87 and Jackson Fikes shot a 98.

In women’s action, Scot golfer Sydney Czanstkowski shot a round of 81. Mackenzie Collins shot a 94 and Madison Robb came in with a 110.

William Woods won the event with a team total of 290. Williams Baptist was second with a 304. Lyon College A was third with a 307 and Lyon College B was fourth with a 322.

Scots softball falls to Briar Cliff Chargers

The Lyon Scots softball team fell to the Briar Cliff Chargers 12-4 and 10-2 in double-header action and Howard and Mary House Field in Batesville on Thursday afternoon.

In the first game, Briar Cliff took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Lyon rallied back to tie the game. In the bottom of the first, Celsey Wood reached first on an error that scored Kassidy Robinson and Jasmine Carlos. Then in the top of the second inning, Robinson doubled in Emily Martinez to tie the game at 3-3.

Briar Cliff scored eight times in the third inning to take an 11-3 lead.

The Scots got another run in the bottom of the third inning when Georgia Holzer singled to center field to bring in Wood.

In the second game, Lyon College trailed 9-0 before Trinity Arrambide singled in Wood and Emilee Engles scored on a throwing error to make it 9-2.

The Scots are scheduled to be in action again at home on Saturday in a double-header against Crowley’s Ridge.

Scots baseball sweep doubleheader against Fisher

The Lyon College Scots baseball team swept a doubleheader on a cold Friday morning and early afternoon over visiting Fisher College at Fred Wann Field 13-1 and 11-1.

Lyon College improves to 15-9 overall with the four-game sweep of the Falcons in the last two days.

In the first game on Friday, the Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the first, Joe Weatherford belted a 2-run homer to right field that also scored Troy Strack.
Weatherford added another RBI to his credit by knocking in Zach Ellis (pictured) with a single to give the Scots a 3-1 lead.

Tristan Buschow reached on an error in the bottom of the third inning that brought in Alec White. Evan Hylek singled in Buschow and Hakeem Yatim for a 6-1 lead.

Jesse McGonigal singled in White in the bottom of the fourth to put Lyon College ahead 7-1.

In the fifth, Strack scored on a Weatherford single and Alan West singled in Weatherford.

In the sixth inning, leading 9-1, CC Burrup singled in Austin Shipman. Logan Lighner singled in Burrup and Clayton Alyea and Kaden Doan scored on a Jordan Olivera single in the sixth to make it 13-1 Scots.

Lyon won the second game 11-1 in a game that was called in the sixth inning due to snow.

West doubled in Strack to start the scoring in Game 2. Weatherford scored on a wild pitch, Haydn Finley singled in West and Logan Doody walked with the bases loaded to bring in Finley for a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning for Lyon.

Chris Lara singled in White and Aaron Hurd in the bottom of the second inning to make it a 6-1 lead.

In the fifth, Strack and Weatherford scored on wild pitches, then Strack doubled in the sixth to bring in Lara and Weatherford ended the game with a two-run double.

The Scots swept a doubleheader from the visiting Fisher College Falcons 11-10 in 11 innings and 12-2 in seven innings on Thursday night at Fred Wann Field.

In the first game, Fisher took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Lyon College came back when Aaron Hurd hit a sacrifice fly to score Troy Strack. Hakeem Yatim reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Joe Weatherford. Jayden Cull singled in Alan West. Evan Hylek walked with the bases loaded to bring in Yatim and Cull later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2 Scots.

Fisher scored another run in the top of the second inning, but Lyon’s Alec White singled in Hurd to make it a 6-3 lead.

Fisher scored two runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-6 advantage. The Scots closed in when White hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Weatherford.

In the ninth, Fisher tacked on two more runs, but the Scots came back to tie the game 10-10. Strack reached first on an error that brought home Cull and Underwood scored on a wild pitch. Weatherford hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Strack for the tie.

Hurd singled in Strack in the bottom of the 11th to give the Scots the win.

In the second game, Hurd blasted a 2-run homer that scored Weatherford in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-1 lead.

Fisher tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, but West scored on a wild pitch and Logan Doody singled in White and Buschow for a 5-2 Lyon College lead.

The Scots scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning. Weatherford hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Zach Ellis. Hurd singled in Underwood, West singled in Strack and Hurd scored on a single from Yatim to make it 9-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Strack hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Ellis and Hurd singled in Underwood and West got a base hit that brought in Weatherford to end the game 12-2.
