A couple from central Arkansas was taken into custody on drug charges last week in Stone County after being stopped on a traffic violation, according to authorities from the Stone County Sheriff’s Department.
Led by Chief Deputy Sheriff Dammon McGilton and 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force Agent Blake Cruz, several officers were working drug interdiction throughout Stone County. A search of the two suspects and their vehicle found meth, a firearm, and drug paraphernalia indicating the two were trafficking illegal drugs.
According to the release, the couple taken into custody was Anthony Berends (pictured below, left), 31, and Tiffany Jones (right), 36, both of Redfield, a community south of Little Rock.
McGilton said an investigation found that Berends and Jones had allegedly been transporting and supplying methamphetamine to others in Stone County.
The chief deputy said Berends is charged with possession of meth with the purpose to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of firearms by a certain person. Officials are asking prosecutors to charge Berends as a habitual offender. His bond was set at $50,000.
