O’FALLON, Mo. – It’s been five years since the Lyon Scots won the American Midwest Conference tournament.
It was 2017, and the Scots defeated Missouri Baptist University 5-2. And the last time Lyon College won the outright regular season championship was 2018, but that year they did not win the tournament, ironically getting knocked out by Missouri Baptist 8-0.
This year’s Scots, 34-19, could be combining both. Lyon College is one win away from claiming the AMC tournament championship at CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Mo. So far in the tournament, the Scots have defeated William Woods 10-7 on Wednesday and had 21 hits in a 13-3, eight-inning win against Columbia College in the semifinals on Thursday.
Lyon College will face the winner of Columbia College and Missouri Baptist, who will play at 10 a.m. on Friday. The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Missouri Baptist advanced to the loser’s bracket finals by defeating Central Baptist College 17-3 in the late game on Thursday.
In two games at the tournament, the Scots have banged out 34 hits and scored 23 runs. Both Clayton Burke and Alan West have been the winning pitchers going complete games, respectively. Jayden Cull led the Scots hitting attack against Columbia with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate and Troy Strack led off the game with a solo home run. Alan West also had a solo homer over the CarShield scoreboard. Kaden Doan for the tournament is 5-for-5 with three runs scored.
