The Batesville School District’s White River Academy campus was recently invited by WoodmenLife to hold a flag retirement ceremony.
White River Academy students were joined by teachers from the academy, members from WoodmenLife, local veterans, administrators from the Batesville School District, and Olivia Cook, Miss Independence County 2021, at Batesville’s Riverside Park for the ceremony.
The park has a pit dedicated to properly retiring flags as needed.
After a performance of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, the group circled around the pit and each person, one by one, placed a piece of the flag in the fire for it to be laid to rest.
A new flag is now displayed on the White River Academy campus. This is the second year WoodmenLife has held the ceremony with White River Academy.
