Obituary: Mary Trice Dalton Penn

On August 2, 2022, Mary Trice Dalton Penn, 100 years old, of Cave City, Arkansas, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, leaving a legacy of God’s amazing love and grace for her family and many loved ones and friends.  She was a faithful member of the Cave City United Methodist Church.

Mary Trice was born on March 2, 1922, to the late Mildred Mills Hughes and Lewis McCallum (Mack) Dalton.  She grew up in the Dalton area and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1939.  She received her teaching degree from Arkansas Tech in Russellville and went on to marry the late Thomas Azor Penn on June 7, 1947.

In her early years, Mary Trice enjoyed horse riding and was selected Queen of the Thayer, MO rodeo.  As an adult, she was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  She loved eating sweets, watching Razorback sports, and she enjoyed puzzles, and games, and above all loved spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Thomas Jackson Penn; one grandson, Garrett Wesley Yeager; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Mary Dalton, and Mack and Helen Dalton.

Survivors include one son, Richard Lewis Penn of Melbourne, one grandson, Billy Penn, and wife Nikki of Cave City, one granddaughter, Holly Vinson of Melbourne, two great-grandsons, Tanner Vinson and Hunter Vinson and wife Katie, one great-great grandson, Slade Vinson, two great-great-granddaughters, Londyn Yeager; Maybree Vinson, and a host of other relatives and friends.  The family would also like to extend appreciation to Mary Jane McSpadden and Linda Bradley who were not only her caregivers but her special friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 5th with Joe Kaiser and Bobby Sanders officiating at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery located at Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Thursday, August 4th at the Qualls Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tim Bradley, Jonathon Fowler, Larry Johnson, Scotty Perkey, Ebby Shreve, and Rustin Wooldridge.

Honorary pallbearers are Russell Fowler, Jim Smith, and Red Lassiter.
