Calvin Edwin Sanders, 87, of Newport departed this life on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born in Augusta on June 9, 1935, to Christopher Columbus and Augusta “Gussie” (Orman) Sanders.
Calvin was a farmhand who worked many years with John Shoffner Farms and Marvin Hare farms. He also spent some time working as a welder in Des Moines, Iowa. He loved all family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening, antiques, and tinkering and was a hoarder of junk.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimmy Daniel Sanders and his brothers, Gordon Sanders and Jim Sanders.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Connie Jean Sanders; his sons, Calvin B. Sanders of Charlotte, North Carolina, Victor E. Sanders of Newport and Erick L. Sanders (Christine) of Diaz; his daughters, Yvonne (Sanders) Rougeau (Barry) of Flower Mound, Texas and Camilla J. Newman (Jack) of Newport; his sister, Sue Ellen Taylor (Donnie) of Newport; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; special friends, Bill and Wanda Smith, Jim and Ernestine Pettit, Teddy Bankster, Nadine and Leon Dalton, Cecil and Nora Foushee, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Bailey and his Marine buddy, Nathan Arthur.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Dillinger Funeral Home chapel.
