The tenth-ranked Ottawa Spirit shut out the Lyon College Scots 70-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Pioneer Stadium in Batesville.
Ottawa led 22-0 after the first quarter and added two more touchdowns in the second period to go up 36-0 by halftime. The Spirit added 20 more points in the third quarter and two more touchdowns in the fourth.
Ottawa had 780 yards of total offense to 156 for the Scots.
Individually for Lyon College, senior quarterback Isaiah Bradford was 7-of-21 for 61 yards through the air, while Jaylin Babers led the Scots rushing attack with 10 attempts for 42 yards. Aedan Huntsman had a catch for 30 yards and Clifford Washington caught one pass for 12 yards in the Lyon College offensive attack.
Defensively, Brandon Johnson had 13 solo tackles and five assists for 18 total tackles to lead the Scots. Mason Davis had eight solos and totaled 11 tackles on the night. Dylan Sieber and Jayden Thomas each had interceptions in the Scots defensive secondary and Chris Bronson came up with a fumble recovery on the Spirit’s first drive of the game.
