Billy Joe Childress, 67, of Newport passed from this life on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.  He was born June 26, 1955, to the late Edward and Minnie Bell (James) Childress.

Billy was a member of Great Harvest Church.  He loved cooking, but he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to casinos.  He loved his sister-in-law, Brandy Harris’ banana pudding.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeremy Crite; his brothers, Donald James, Timothy Childress and Bernard Childress; his sisters, Mildred Curry and Pamela Childress.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Angelia Childress; his sons, Jerbace Crite (Marissa Robinson) of Searcy, Billy Joe Crite (Raissa) of Jonesboro, Drew Crite of  Dermount ,Curtis Gist of Newport, Samuel Houston of Newport, Quantaveon Livingston of Newport, his daughters, LaShaye Blake (Danny) of Jonesboro, Camie Crite of Blytheville, Shameka Houston of Newport, Shaundrika Houston of Newport, bonus daughter, Holly Phillips (Tony) of Newport, brothers, Lenard Moore of Diaz, Edward James Childress of Atlanta, Renard Childress (Porsha) of Jonesboro, Charles James Childress of Jonesboro, John Childress (Tonya) of Alabama, brother-in-law, Leotis Gist (Shirley) of Newport, sisters, Patsy Bonds (Lewis) of Memphis, Brandy Harris (Willie) of Newport, Margaret Davis (Donald) of Brownsville, Shirley Johnson of Newport, Lucy West (Jimmie) of Newport, Sharon Bailey of Jonesboro, sister-in-law, Dana Gist of Newport, bonus daughter, Kesa Holman of Newport, mother-in-law, Netter Brandon of Newport, special friends, Lacy of California and Bobby T. Smith, 27 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; special nephews, Joseph Gist, Xavier Rucker, Tony Phillips and Jovan Holman and special uncle, Jessie Gist.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Holden Avenue Church of Christ with interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 16 from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
