Fleeing from law enforcement does not work too often, and it didn’t this time.

According to a release from Stone County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dammon McGilton, an investigation began on Aug. 29 into the activity of Keith E. Miller, 56, of Mountain View. The Stone County Sheriff’s Department, the Mountain View Police Department, and the Arkansas Probation and Parole Department began investigating Miller, a Level 3 sex offender on parole with an extensive record, on sex offender registration requirements, the chief deputy said.

After obtaining information from Miller’s phone through a search warrant, investigators were able to locate evidence of numerous chat rooms and social media sites that were apparently not registered with authorities, according to the release.

McGilton also said Miller contacted the parole office on Sept. 1 and allegedly said he was outside the office with a gun and was going to kill everyone inside. He also allegedly threatened a Mountain View police officer over the phone.

The chief deputy said after a search for Miller was made, authorities discovered he had fled the state and absconded from parole.

According to the release, Miller was eventually located and arrested in Carlsbad, New Mexico on Sept. 7. McGilton said Miller will be extradited back to Stone County.

The six felony charges against Miller include four counts of failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. He’ll also be tried as a habitual offender.

Miller’s bond was set at $250,000.
