A Batesville woman is facing various theft and fraud charges involving stolen credit card numbers.
Independence County Circuit Court information says Christine Antoinette Newman, 39, has been charged with 11 felonies and five misdemeanors involving theft of property, fraudulent use of a credit or debit card, identity fraud, and forgery.
Batesville Police said they were alerted in August by First Community Bank regarding someone using stolen bank credit card numbers over the past several months. During the investigation, officers learned that Newman, who worked for the bank’s contracted cleaning company, had convictions related to financial crimes in the past, according to the court information.
After obtaining a search warrant for her residence, authorities discovered numerous items that were to be held as evidence, Newman’s arrest affidavit said.
The affidavit said Newman “admitted that she had in fact stolen and used credit card numbers from First Community Bank” in a videotaped interview made after she had waived her Miranda Rights. She also admitted to stealing checks from the bank, but said she had not tried to cash or use them.
The fraudulent charges totaled $29,929, according to the affidavit.
Christine A. Newman’s bond was set at $50,000.
