Mountain View cruises to victory over Marshall

The Mountain View Yellowjackets used a strong first half to cruise to a 44-0 victory over Marshall to remain unbeaten on the season.

Early in the first quarter Yellowjacket junior Drew Shelton intercepted a Canaan Horton pass giving Mountain View the ball at the Bobcat 46. Four plays later, Shelton scored on a 16-yard run, the two point conversion was good on run by Levi Rorie, and Mountain View led 8-0. The Yellowjackets added a one-yard touchdown run by senior Trampas Stubbs to give Mountain View a 14-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Midway through the second quarter, the Yellowjackets forced another turnover on downs for the Bobcats. Mountain View proceeded to go 70 yards on seven plays, scoring on a 13-yard run by Rorie. The two-point conversion was good on a run by senior Landon Goins to give Mountain View a 22-0 lead. Mountain View added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, a 68-yard touchdown run by Stubbs, and an 11-yard touchdown reception by Jack Newton. The two-point conversion was good for both scores to give Mountain View a 38-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Mountain View scored on three-yard touchdown run by senior Austin Corter to cap off a 10 play 60-yard touchdown drive to finish the scoring at 44-0.

Mountain View totaled 420 yards of total offense. Stubbs led the way with 158 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Rorie added 63 yards on six carries, as 11 different Yellowjackets carried the ball. Marshall was led offensively by Daken England who had 19 carries of 41 yards on the ground. Defensively, Mountain View was led by Stubbs who had 10 tackles and Laddie Sims added eight tackles. As Mountain View improved to 5-0 overall on the season and 4-0 in conference play. Marshall fell to 1-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

Next week Mountain View will travel to Cutter-Morning Star to take on the Eagles. Pregame will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
