A Mountain View man has been charged in Stone County Circuit Court with two felonies – possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver and theft of property.
According to the court information, Shane Lee Mitchell, 45, was observed speeding in a Ford pickup truck on Verser Road last Wednesday by an Arkansas Game and Fish officer. The officer initiated his blue lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but Mitchell drove the truck down a fire break, before becoming stuck as it tried — and failed — to get up a hill. Mitchell was eventually taken into custody.
The court information said Mitchell had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear and was also driving on a suspended driver’s license.
During the pursuit, Mitchell was observed throwing a hat and storage bag out of the pickup. It was later recovered and found to contain 40 grams of crystal meth, the court information said.
Mitchell was also allegedly driving the pickup without permission of the owner and therefore was charged with theft of property.
During a post-Miranda interview, Chief Deputy Sheriff Dammon McGilton said Mitchell allegedly admitted to throwing the bag of meth out of the vehicle’s window and to “borrowing” the pickup from a neighbor without permission.
His bond was set at $25,000.
