Over 8,500 food items were collected during the Batesville School District’s “Scare Away Hunger Campaign” that took place last week on each BSD campus and at the Friday Pioneers vs. Brookland football game. Batesville Junior High School Charter students from Katie Covington’s art class helped to make a Halloween-themed collection box where Pioneer fans were encouraged to bring items and drop them in “Casper’s” Halloween bucket.
The campuses also had a competition to see who could collect the most items. The Sulphur Rock campus gathered 3,386 items, making them the top collector for the competition. Pioneer Joe will now be front and center at the Halloween costume parade at the campus as a prize for helping to “Scare Away Hunger.”
The food items collected will be used to restock the district’s campus food pantries that service our backpack program which benefits students from across the district.
