Obituary: Shirley Ann (Shald) Chaney

Shirley Ann (Shald) Chaney, 87, of Batesville, AR, passed away at her home on November 2, 2022. Shirley was born on March 19, 1935, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to the late Ralph Leo and Evadene Belle Shald.

Shirley loved her family passionately, and her life of 87 years was filled with love. She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and gave tirelessly of her time and talent to the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 65 years, James (Jim) R. Chaney; brother, Donald Shald; and sister-in-law, Kathryn “Tootie” Shald. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Ryan (Steve) of Newark, AR and Kathryn Lamb (Bryant) of Guion, AR; son, Steven Chaney (Tracye) of Melbourne, AR; grandchildren, Matthew Ryan (Emily), Chaney James (Forrest), Brad Lamb (Fiancé Erin Rittman), Cole Lamb, Jay Chaney, Jared Chaney, Savannah Daigle (Josh), Mary Hannah Bryant (Mills), and Lydia Sipe; great-granddaughter, Robyn Daigle; as well as a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 12:30 p.m., with visitation following from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and mass, officiated by Father Miskin, beginning at 2 p.m. Interment, officiated by Father Gadberry, will be held at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Independence Regional Museum or the Humane Society of Independence County.
