Elinor Snowman Wade attended The Snowman School in Woodland, Maine prior to leaving her beloved farm when her mother convinced her father to move the family into Caribou, Maine. She dug potatoes during harvest seasons as a kid. She left school in the 10th grade and went to work at JJ Newberry’s Five and Dime in Caribou, Maine. She later worked in the kitchen at Cary Memorial Hospital and for Landaus in Caribou. She worked in Presque Isle, Maine as a nanny to 3 children and then worked in the kitchen and housekeeping departments of Presque Isle Hospital. She met her husband when she brought him some food after he had given blood at the Presque Isle Hospital. They were married at Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle on 13 September 1955. She served as the spouse of an air force man from that day until his retirement in June of 1974. They lived in Maine, Spain, Texas, Alabama, the Azores, and the Philippines during that time. She also had a full-time job of being the mother of 3 boys and 3 girls. They left Montgomery, Alabama to move to Bill’s old homeplace on the south end of Round Bottom in Stone County, Arkansas in June of 1978 where she lived the rest of her life except for a year she spent with her daughter and her family in Eclectic, Alabama. Elinor worked for Stone County Health Unit as a home health aide. She belonged to the VFW in Tumbling Shoals and American Legion in Mountain View. She enjoyed monthly lunch dates with the “misfits” prior to the covid pandemic. She enjoyed watching animals and birds out the windows, from one of the yard benches, or porches of the home in Round Bottom. During her stay in Eclectic, she loved having her morning coffee and watching animals from her daughter’s back porch. In her younger days she enjoyed going picnicking with her husband, children, and later grandchildren, visiting ocean fronts (but not going out on them in boats – she got seasick), visiting historical places, museums, and gardens, reading, doing word search puzzles, watching old westerns, crime and detective shows, swimming, bowling, and tending her flowers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at the Sanctuary UPC of Mountain View, beginning at 2:00 P.M. Brother Paul Mize will officiate the service.
