An Izard County man has been sentenced in the attempted capital murder case involving the manager of a Melbourne fast-food outlet.
Matthew P. Garner (pictured below), 34, was sentenced to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections after jurors found him guilty of attempted capital murder and first-degree battery, both felonies, last week in Izard County Circuit Court.
The case stems from the Oct. 28, 2019 shooting ambush of Kyle Cantrell of Melbourne.
Cantrell suffered serious injuries after he was shot three times after an ambush in the early morning hours as he was leaving to go to work. Cantrell was the manager of the local Sonic, and Garner had been employed there before being dismissed by Cantrell, according to an October 2019 release from the Izard County Sheriff’s Department.
