A Batesville man was arrested after a police chase that exceeded speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour.
According to the incident report, Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Ade spotted a vehicle with fictitious tags in the Sulphur Rock area on Dec. 12 and proceeded to stop the vehicle for a traffic check. However, the driver of the vehicle began evading the officer and his effort to pull the 2021 Ford Fusion over, the report said.
The driver, identified as Preston Lee Holley, 19, would not pull his vehicle over and come to a stop, according to the report. At one time, the report said Holley drove the vehicle through someone’s yard, bypassing the stop sign and almost striking another vehicle.
Speeds on East Wright street exceeded 90 miles per hour, and, in a curve, Deputy Ade said Holley forced another vehicle off the roadway. An Arkansas Wildlife Officer came upon the pursuit and joined Ade in his effort to get the vehicle off the road, according to the report.
Holley drove through a driveway in the area and onto a pathway in the woods. All three vehicles made it through the woods, coming back out onto the beginning of the driveway. An Arkansas State Police trooper then joined the effort and struck the driver’s door of the fleeing vehicle, effectively ending the pursuit. At that time, Holley put his hands out of his vehicle’s front window and gave himself up, the report said.
Holley allegedly told officers he “ran” because he had some warrants and did not want to go to jail.
But he did. Holley was placed on a probable cause hold and taken to jail.
Citations include felony fleeing and nine misdemeanor traffic violations, including driving on a suspended driver’s license, fictitious tags, reckless driving, and more.
