Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery has made committee assignments for quorum court members.

Serving on the Road Committee will be: Tim Stewart, Brent Henderson, Johnathan Abbott, Johnny McMullin, and Charles Jordan.

The Budget Committee membership is a prestigious placement and does the bulk of its work in the last quarter of each year. Serving on this committee will be: Tim Stewart, Brent Henderson, Charles Jordan, Kenny Hurley, and Bill Lindsey.

The Solid Waste Committee may be more active this year. Recycling falls within its purview. The forces that push recycling will be putting pressure on members to reconsider doing away with the service — or maybe not. Members of this committee are: Charles Jordan, Brad Covington, Tammy Pearce, Brent Henderson, and Jason Jones.

JPs assigned to the Emergency Services/Law Enforcement Committee include: Tim Stewart, Johnny McMullin, Brent Henderson, Charles Jordan, and Kenny Hurley.

The Recreation Committee probably gets as much public input as any committee on the Court. It usually has about $270,000 to distribute to parks and recreation groups across the county. The only real problem this committee occasionally encounters is a group wanting to be funded that has absolutely nothing to do with parks or any other form of recreation. Members assigned to this committee include: Kenny Hurley, Brad Covington, Tammy Pearce, Jason Jones, and Dennis Stephen.

The Shooting Range committee will be: Johnathan Abbott, Brad Covington, Tammy Pearce, Jason Jones, and Dennis Stephens.

The Policy Committee is the one that probably does more work behind the scenes than any other. Having good policy is desired, but adherence to that policy is better. Members are: Johnathan Abbott, Jason Jones, and Bill Lindsey.
