The Sharp County Sheriff’s Department will be upgrading equipment to help convert its current radio system to digital.
According to a story by Region 8 News’ Hayden Savage, Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell says the upgrade will be possible through the American Rescue Act.
“We had to convert over to a narrow high band, and our radio service here in the county has just been awful,” he said. “We’re hoping by going to digital, that will definitely increase to get out and respond to calls.”
The story notes the Sharp County hills make it difficult for sheriff’s department employees to communicate via the current radio system.
The sheriff said $120,000 would be spent on seven new repeaters, two new radios for dispatch, seven new consoles for dispatch, and two generators.
