Lyon College Theatre will present Yasmina Reza’s acclaimed comedy “Art” on Thursday through Saturday, April 10-12, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. in the Holloway Theatre on the Lyon College campus, 2300 Highland Rd., Batesville.

Directed by Professor and Director of Theatre Dr. Fonzie Geary, the production explores themes of art and friendship through the story of three longtime friends, Serge, Marc and Yvan. When Serge indulges his passion for modern art by purchasing a large, expensive, completely white painting, Marc is appalled, leading to intense debates about what constitutes “art.” Caught in the middle, Yvan attempts to mediate the escalating conflict.

The cast features Lyon College senior Liam Selhorst of Sherwood as Marc, junior Weston Derden of North Little Rock as Serge and senior Luke Bridges of Lakeland, Tennessee, as Yvan. Senior Lillie Hall of Ash Flat serves as stage manager.

Originally premiering in 1994 at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées in Paris, “Art” has received widespread acclaim, including the 1995 Molière Award for Best Commercial Production, the 1997 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play. The play has been staged in London’s West End and on Broadway, earning multiple accolades.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. Lyon College students, faculty and staff receive free admission.

Due to mature content, the play may not be suitable for all audiences.
