Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens said Friday morning that the Aug. 12 shooting incident in Bethesda is still under investigation.
Stephens said his investigative unit is awaiting medical information to arrive on a man who suffered a gunshot wound in the incident and was hospitalized, treated, and later released — Robert E. Davis, 42.
The sheriff also told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman that the unit is waiting for autopsy information on the man who died in the incident, William Clay Holt, 56.
The sheriff said it sometimes can take three months or more to get an autopsy report from the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
“They stay busy,” Stephens said.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 12, the sheriff’s department received a 911 call from Davis saying he had been shot, and he gave his location. When officers arrived, they found Davis and sent him to the hospital. They also found Holt, deceased. (Click here for more information on the story.)
Stephens also told White River Now that his department has been busy with financial identity fraud cases, receiving around 200 reports since June 8. The sheriff said the suspects are filing for unemployment benefits on someone else’s name — sometimes using the victim’s address, other times using another place of residence.
